3103 - Emerging M.Apps 1: Targeted Applications for Landslide Monitoring and Burn Detection

Session Speakers
Session Description

Landslide Monitoring, Planetek Italia: Monitoring is essential to assessing and predicting landslides and ground structural weaknesses which could affect buildings or infrastructures. A unique cloud-based service is available today for organizations and professionals working in civil protection, master plan management and insurance to obtain accurate information to monitor slow moving landslides, and get important signals from a landslide warning system. Available as a Smart M.App, Rheticus Landslide is an accurate information service designed to monitor movements occurring across landslide features or structural weaknesses, over time, that could affect buildings or infrastructures. Burned Area Definition, Planetek Italia: The cause of wildfires varies throughout the world. In some countries, human involvement is a major contributor. Fires in forests, grasslands and other wooded areas can ignite as a result of illegal land-conversion activities. Restricting construction in burn-prone areas is one solution which governments employ to attempt to overcome this problem, and burned land monitoring is put into practice in the effort to trace any illegal activities. To help public fire corps monitoring these activities, we have designed an automatic workflow using satellite data. Available as a Smart M.App, makes of monthly-updated imagery to enable the accurate definition of the extent of burnt areas, and fast detection of illegal constructions and activities.
